I’m posting this while feeling bad about myself….whoops. Thanks past Erika, for this.
Number one, keep in mind that what you’re seeing on social media is not the entire story. I promise promise promise that every single business in the world has their struggles, both past and current. I love seeing the honest side of a company – the one that tells you their struggles. But even when they share their true story, it’s not the WHOLE story. Don’t compare your struggles to their strengths.
Number two, remind yourself that the reason you started your business is a completely different reason from why they started their business. And their journey will look completely different than yours will! It doesn’t mean you aren’t successful. Look for the small wins, and celebrate them.
And number three, take a few minutes to write down what you love about your business and what you know you’re doing well in yours. And then read them and say them out loud on the regular. Here are some of my favorites:
My product is valuable.
My product helps people.
My branding is gorgeous and reflects my personality.
I work hard to solve my client’s problem.
I help other women feel confident.
Protip: even if you only half believe what you’re saying at first, say it anyway!
Nobody is immune to getting caught in the comparison trap. Literally nobody. But you can be ready for when it sneaks up on you. Save this post and come back to it every time you feel stuck or sad or inadequate. Because I’m here to tell you that your business is beautiful. You are needed. You are admired and loved. And most of all, you AND your business are both good enough. Don’t let your own brain convince you otherwise.
