I love getting questions from all of you! This one came in a few months ago, and I wanted to share my answer here.
Do you have any tips for creating websites for authors?
YES, and these tips can go toward other websites as well!
So first tip, keep your website clean. By that I mean, everything should have its place. And it should be easy for you readers, or your future clients, to look at your website and know exactly what you do and what you sell – and know exactly where to click. There’s nothing more frustrating than not being able to find what you want on a website.
Next, Include an author bio because it’s important for readers to know you, like you, and trust you.
If you already have books out, you’ll want to have tabs for each book so you can put a synopsis on there, and then maybe even some of your thoughts.
A contact form is a must for every website, otherwise people won’t be able to get a hold of you.
An author’s website should have really great branding because it needs to encompass who you are as an author, so that we can attract the people that you want to be your readers, and so you can sell more books.
A pretty website and logo can help a lot — but it’s the strategy behind it that makes the magic. There is so much strategy that goes into my website designs. You can learn a little bit more about the importance of strategy on this blog post.
If this feels super easy peasy to you, and you can do it all on your own, awesome! But if all of this just seems overwhelming, don’t worry, I can help you with every single step.
